Melvin was a gentle man, in 1913 he and his brother Floyd, lived with their
Miles grand parents while his mother took a job as a Nanny with a Jewish family
who traveled widely from their home in Avondale, a suburb of Cincinati, Ohio.
He became a collector of the many post cards that were sent to him by his
mother, his grand parents, aunts and uncles as well as many cousins. When the
Miles grandparents became too old to care for the boys, the boys were sent to a
Childrens Home on West Ninth Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later (before
4/24/1917) Melvin
was sent to live with Mr. E.F Frederick and his wife Winnie as a foster child
near Danville, Ohio on a Farm. Floyd was sent to a Mr. & Mrs Rice as a foster
child on a farm near Delta Ohio.
Melvin studied stationary engineering and ran a power plant in a brick
manufacturing plant, was self taught as a machinist, electrician and general
all around good mechanic. Completely remodled Royal Brick Plant in Canton,
Ohio and later became General Superintendant. Was a remarkably good bowler,
competing in many tournaments locally and across the U.S. until he turned
nearly Ninty years of age.
Melvin loved to travel. His auto trips were recorded by Photographs and slides
and covered the entire U.S. and much of Canada. His last trip was to the west
coast near Portland Oregon where he fished in waders and perhaps lead to his
death from pneumonia.

Goldie Oma (Piatt)

Goldie Oma Pyatte was a good woman who as single parent took care of her son Ralph as best she could. Often leading to strange settings with men her son did not know. She saw to it that Ralph was sent to Boy Scouts, including summer camp and church meetings greatly increasing his knowledge of people in general. Helped considerably in his indoctoration in U.S. Marine Corps. She was proud of her son and despite her second husband tried hard to show it.
