Giovanni Manganiello John John

Killed in auto accident on thanksgiving day 1931. Also in the car was Chuck's dad, Theodore, and his uncle John, Charlie Serino and Uncle Gene. Chuck visited the National Archives and on 12 Dec 1994 found the US arrival
information for Giovanni and his son Angelo (#14-Chuck's grandfather).
according to these records he sailed from Naples, Italy on April 19, 1899 (I believe it should be 1898) aboard the S/S Tartar Prince and arrived in the port of New York on May 9, 1898. There were 33 persons aboard the ship, twelve from Montefusco, Italy. Other last names from Montefusco were TROISI, SABATO, BARONI (married to Cecilia Manganiello), CAMPI. He was 36 (born 1862) and was accompanied by his son Angelo who was 13. Other information on this arrival document indicated he was going to Wilkes-Barre, PA to see his brother,Carmine-#495, and had never been in the US before. The 1910 census shows him living at 206 Salem Street in West Pittston. The census was done on 21-22 April 1910, and he reportedly was 44 years old (born 1866). He had been married 24 years and arrived in the US in 1897 he was a naturalized
citizen, spoke English and was a foundry laborer. The census indicated he
could read and write and that he owned his own home (206 Salem). On 30 Aug
1994 as I left W. Pittston I was taking photos of the Salem St houses. I asked a gentlemen sitting on his front porch (217 Salem) where 215 Salem was as I could not find it as the converstion developed I learned that he was my dad'scousin Sam Denisco. Sam told me that my Great Grandfather (GGF) had bought and lived in the home at 222 Salem and then added a garage at the rear. This is now where Pearl lives. He also told me that a Denisco now lives at 171 Salem, which is where my grandfather said he lived when applying for his wedding license to Nellie. A handwritten note in dad's family folder indicates Giovanni came to the US in 1899 and became a citizen October 6, 1904 in the Court of Scranton in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. His headstone in the West Pittston, PA cemetery indicate he was born in 1863 and died in 1930. However the April 1910 census indicated he was born in 1866, was 44 and immigrated in 1897.

Tomasina Bonito Bonito Bonito

The SOUNDEX for this name, BONITO, is . Other spellings are BONIETTO

Spelling of the last name came from a birth record obtained 21 Sep 1998 in Avellino, Italy. The marriage application of her son Angelo indicated the spelling to be BONIETTO. AT LEAST 7 CHILDREN. The April 1910 Census shows her to be 45 which would mean she was born in 1865. Her gravestone (see photo) in the West Pittston, PA cemetery shows her birth year as 1861, and her death year as 1932. This same census showed she immigrated to the US in 1898. A note in Ted's family file indicated she may have become a citizen October 6, 1904 in the Court of Scranton in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

James Manganiello

The ellisisland.org website searched on 11 Jun 2001 shows a 11 yo single male, VINCENZO, travelling with his mother TOMMASINA BONITO. He was from Montefusco and sailed from Naples aboard the Manilla, arriving in the US on 6 April 1900. I belive VINCENZO is who everyone knows as James. If 11 in April 1900 he would have been born in 1889 or 1888.. He was travelling with siblings SABINO, MARIA CARMELA< PUNIZIA< and CECILIA

Sabino Manganiello

Uncle Sam and Aunt Mary adopted a son Charles. Birth and death date taken
from headstone in West Pittston, PA cemetery. Served as a private in the US
Army 1941-1945. The April 1910 census indicated he was born in 1881 (I believe
1891 is correct) and that his age was 19. It also showed he immigrated in
1898.

The name SABINO was extracted from ellisisland.org manifest of the Manilla which arrived in the US on 6 April 1900. He was shown to be 9 yo, male, single and from Montefusco. He was travelling with Tommasina Bonito, his mother and siblings. VINCENZO, MARIA CARMELA, PUNIZIA and CECILIA.

Maria Carmela Manganiello

The April 1910 census indicates she was 16 and born in 1884 (wrong). Indicated
she immigrated in 1898. Her headstone shows she was born in 1894 and died in
1990 (Carmella M. Denisco)

On the ellisisland.org web site on 11 June 2001, I found that she arrived in the US aboard the Manilla on 6 April 1900. This is where I obtained the first name Maria and the spelling Carmela. She was shown to be 6 yo, female, singe and from Montefusco. She was travelling with her mother TOMMASINA BONITO ans siblings VINCENZO, SABINO, PUNIZIA, and CECILIA. This record confirms a birth in 1894.

Nunzella Manganiello

The April 1910 census shows her to be 13 and immigrating to the US in 1898.

The ellisisland.org web site on 11 June 2001 indicates the name PUNIZIA, who I believe is the same person as Nunzella. I base this on the age on arrival in 1900. She arrived aboard the Manilla on 6 April 1900. The age was 4 yo. She was shown to be female, single and from Montefusco. She was travelling with her mother TOMMASINA BONITO and her siblings. VINCENZO, SABINO, MARIA CARMELA, and CECILIA

Helen Manganiello

The April 1910 census shows her to be 11 and immigrating to the US in 1898.
She was the last of Giovanni's children to be born in Italy. She would have
been 1 when they immigrated.

ARRIVAL: On 11 June 2001 the web site, ellisislandrecords.org, shows a CECILIA traveling with her mother TOMMASINA BONITO and siblings VINCENZO, SABINO, MARIA CARMELA, and PUNIZIA. She was 2 months old and was a female, single and from Montefusco. I believe CECILIA is really HELEN. She arrived on 6 April 1900 aboard the Manilla.

James Manganiello

The April 1910 census shows him to be 8 years old and of US birth. He was the
first of Giovanni's kids born in the US-probably in West Pittston.

Louis Manganiello

The April 1910 census indicates he was of US birth and 7 years old.

Ida Manganiello

Someone told me that she died in 1911, but she is missing from the 1910 census
0f 21-22 April 1910.
