Know all men by these presents, that
we William Peatt and John Miller are held and firmly bound unto James Barbour
Esquire, Governor of Vurginia, and his successors, for the use of the commonwealth,
in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars, to which payment well and
truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators
jointly and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed and dated this
17 day of November 1814. The condition of the above obligation
as such that whereas marriage is shortly intended to be solemnised between
the above bound Willam Peatt and Mary Smith daughter of Martin Smith (unreadable)
of Augusta County, if therefore, there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct
this said marriage, hten the above obligation to be void, otherwise to
remain in full force and virtue.
